LL-37 (CAP-18)

Product Details: LL-37 (CAP-18) Peptide

LL-37, also called CAP-18, is a 37-amino-acid cationic antimicrobial peptide derived from the C-terminal region of human cathelicidin antimicrobial protein hCAP-18. It is water-soluble, amphipathic, and stable under standard laboratory conditions.

LL-37 is widely used as a model peptide in in vitro studies of antimicrobial activity, peptide-lipid interactions, and peptide-mediated signaling. This peptide is intended exclusively for laboratory research and not for human or therapeutic use [1][2][3].

Mechanism of Action

LL-37 is a positively charged and amphipathic peptide. In lab experiments, it binds strongly to negatively charged lipid membranes, causing temporary changes in membrane structure. This interaction allows researchers to study how cationic peptides interact with membranes under controlled conditions. LL-37 can also associate with membrane proteins, helping examine peptide-protein interactions in vitro [2][3].

Its small size and positive charge allow LL-37 to penetrate lipid bilayers in experimental systems. This makes it a useful tool for studying structure-function relationships of cationic peptides and their behavior with membranes and proteins. All effects described are observed in laboratory experiments only [1].
