Flibanserin

Flibanserin – Product Details

Subjects presenting with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) are the primary focus of investigation for treatment with flibanserin. HSDD is characterized by a persistent deficiency or absence of sexual desire associated with clinically significant distress in animal experimental models.

Flibanserin is thought to influence sexual desire by modulating central neurotransmitter systems.  It modulates serotonin levels and enhances dopamine and norepinephrine activity. This neurochemical alteration is believed to contribute to an increase in sexual motivation, as observed in models of hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in research models.

• CAS Number is stated as 167933-07-5.

• IUPAC Name: 1-[2-[4-(3-trifluoromethylphenyl)piperazin-1-yl]ethyl]-3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-isoindole-4-carboxamide.
• Also known by Synonyms as Addyi

What is Flibanserin ?

Flibanserin is a multifunctional serotonin agonist and antagonist, which is studied for hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in research subjects.

Dopamine and norepinephrine are released together with a decrease in serotonin as a result of their specific action on pyramidal neurons in the prefrontal cortex.

How Does Flibanserin Work?

The action of flibanserin is mediated by the enhancement of 5-HT1A receptor activity, which reduces sexual inhibition, and the inhibition of 5-HT2A receptors, which are associated with sexual suppression.

Additionally, flibanserin inhibits P-glycoprotein, which may necessitate more frequent monitoring of medication concentrations with narrow therapeutic indices that are delivered by P-glycoprotein.
