Tamoxifen

Product Details – Tamoxifen

Tamoxifen citrate is a nonsteroidal selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) widely utilized in investigational research. It is structurally classified as a triphenylethylene derivative and is frequently employed in experimental models to study estrogen receptor signaling pathways.

Mechanism of Action

Tamoxifen functions as a competitive ligand of the estrogen receptor (ER), binding primarily to ERα and ERβ isoforms. Upon binding, it induces conformational changes in the receptor that alter coactivator and corepressor recruitment.

In experimental models, this results in modulation of estrogen-responsive gene transcription through interaction with estrogen response elements (EREs) in DNA. The compound exhibits tissue-selective receptor modulation due to differential expression of transcriptional cofactors in various cellular systems.

Research Applications

Tamoxifen is extensively utilized in investigational research for the study of estrogen receptor signaling and endocrine pathway modulation.

Common applications in preclinical and experimental models include:

• Analysis of estrogen receptor binding dynamics and ligand selectivity
• Investigation of transcriptional regulation mediated by nuclear hormone receptors
• Use in inducible gene expression systems (e.g., Cre-lox recombination models activated by tamoxifen-responsive constructs)
• Evaluation of selective receptor modulation in cellular and molecular research systems

Its role as a reference compound in in vitro studies makes it valuable for comparative analysis of other SERMs and estrogen receptor ligands.
